Harry Maguire and David de Gea’s errors helped Sevilla send Manchester United crashing out of the Europa League last night.

England’s skipper Harry Jacob Maguire was caught on the eight minutes after a hospital pass from his goalkeeper, De Gea allowing Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri to put Sevilla ahead after a 2-2 draw in last week’s quarter-final first league. In the first half, Sevilla was leading by one goal to nil.

In the second half, Sevilla won a corner kick and Loic Bade’s header looped past De Gea to make it 2-0 for the home team just two minutes after the half time.

Manchester United tried to find an equalizer goal but Sevilla defended well to deny Manchester United strikers from scoring.

In the 81st minute. United keeper tried to control a high ball but instead, he gave it straight to En-Nesyri who curled into an empty net from 30 yards to seal record six-time winners Sevilla’s place in the last four.

Manchester United was without their key players, Bruno Fernandes, Martinez, and Varane. Fernandez was suspended after collecting a second yellow card in the first quarter-final first league at Old Trafford last week. Varane and Martinez were absent after they got injured. Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford were introduced in the second half after they just after their recovery from an injury.

Speaking to the reporters after last night’s game, Manchester United manager, Erik Ten Hag, admitted that the performance was one which just cannot fly and his side needed to show greater character and composure if they were to have a successful end to the season.

” I already started (trying) but we have to pick them up, but also we have to face that, we let ourselves down and we let the fans down,” Ten Hag told reporters after the game in Andalusia.

The setback in Seville was United’s fourth defeat on the road in nine games, a run form that clashed with the exemplary home record at Old Trafford where they haven’t lost since September.

Manchester hasn’t won in their last six meeting against Sevilla. They have just collected two draws and lost four games.

Now Sevilla will face the Italian giants, Juventus, on 11th May 2023 in the first semi-final first leg at Turin, Italy, this after Juventus eliminated sporting Lisbon on an aggregate of 2-1 last night.
