The Director General and Chief Executive officer of the Private Security Regulatory Authority has today published a list of security firms that have been registered and licensed as security service providers in Kenya as of 17th February 2023.
It was published vide Legal Notice No. PSRA/004/2023, Pursuant to Sections 6, 9 (c), 28, 30 (1), 31, and 34 of the Private Security Regulation Act No. 13 of 2016 which governs Private Security, service providers.
The Private Security and Regulatory Authority CEO, Mr. Fazul Mahamed further cited SECTION 69 (1) of the Private Regulation Act No. 13 of 2016, which states, a person
Who-
- Operates as a private security service provider without being the holder of a valid license under the Act; and/or
- Hires, employs, or otherwise engages the services of any unlicensed private security firm or unregistered private security guard.
COMMITS AN OFFENCE and shall be liable to a fine or to both such fine and imprisonment in the case of a natural person and two million shillings (Kshs. 2,000,000/-) in the case of a corporate.

Private Security is registered and licensed by the Private Security Regulatory Authority, this applies to corporates and individuals offering Private Security. No one can provide Private Security services within the country without being licensed by Private Security Regulatory Authority.
According to (Private Security) PSRA CEO, The Purpose of the Legal Notice is to bring this information to the attention of users, prospective users, or representatives of users of security services and further advise that they ONLY procure, hire, or otherwise engage security services from licensed private security companies.
He cautioned the public to TAKE NOTE that the 5-year Certificate of Registration is the ONLY proof of having been registered and licensed with the Private Security Regulatory Authority in accordance with the provisions of the Private Security Regulation Act No. 13 of 2016 for Private Security firms.

Members of the public have lamented via twitter, being left out despite applying for license to provide Private Security services.
They hope that the Authority will update the list of Private Security firms from time and also allow those who wish to be licensed as Private Security service providers to apply for Private Security licenses.
