Lionel Messi was crowned sportsman of the year on The Laures World Sports Awards; an annual award-giving event that recognizes big names in the world of sports was concluded on Monday, May 8th, in Paris, France.
The ceremony was once again, like in the previous years, done in style as many sports personalities who had been nominated were in attendance, as winners were awarded in front of a constellation of the current and retired stars of the gaming world.
Lionel Andres Messi was the main protagonist of the night. The Argentine football megastar was awarded the biggest prize of the night, The Spokesperson for the Year, and also received, alongside his Argentinean teammates, the award for the best team of the year, this after their triumph at the 2022 world cup in Qatar.
The 35-year-old Paris St Germain forward has previously won the award once before, sharing it with Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton in 2020.
Messi also became the first athlete to scoop both the World Sportsman of the Year Award and the World Team of the Year Award in the same year.
