The Bermuda triangle, also known as the Devil’s Triangle,is an urban legend focused on a loosely defined region in the western part of the Atlantic Ocean where a number of aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
The idea of the area as uniquely prone to disappearances arose in the mid-20th century, but most reputable sources dismiss the idea that there’s any mystery.
However,The Bermuda Triangle does not appear on any world maps and The U.S. based on Geographic names does not recognize the Bermuda Triangle as an official region of the Atlantic Ocean.

Why the name ‘Bermuda Triangle?’
Although reports of unexplained (mysterious) occurrences in the region date to the mid-19th century, the phrase ‘Bermuda Triangle ‘ did not come into use until 1964. The phrase first appeared in print in a pulp magazine article by Vincent Gaddis, who used the phrase to describe a triangular region “that has destroyed hubdreds of ships and planes without trace.”
Legends behind the mysterious Bermuda Triangle.
There is a high number of ships and airplanes not known by exact number that have disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle. The most common estimate is about 50 ships and 20 airplanes. The wreckage of many ships and airplanes reported missing in the region has not been recovered.
It is not known whether disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle have been the result of human error or whether phenomena.
The stories around the Bermuda triangle begin in Christopher Columbus’s time when he reportedly saw a flame of fire crashing into the sea in the triangle during his first voyage to the New World.
However, the mysterious behaviour of the region came to the public attention only in the 20th century when the Navy cargo ship, USS Cyclops, with more than 300 people on board, went missing in the Bermuda triangle. The latest incident in the region is the disappearance of a small twin-engine plane in May this year.
With four people on board, the plane suddenly disappeared from the radar when it was flying from Puerto Rico to Florida, and the debris from the missing plane was found later.
The recent incident that involved a ship was the sinking of a cargo vessel in the Bermuda Triangle during a deadly hurricane in October 2015.
As the accidents, often mysterious, continue to happen in the Bermuda Triangle region, many have offered a number of explanations for the mystery behind them.

What might be the cause of the mysterious occurrences??
The bizarre disappearances attributed to the Triangle have been linked to everything from alien abduction to sorcery. Although the mystery has not yet been completely solved, there are scientific explanations for many of the maritime disasters that have occurred in the Triangle. The most obvious answers are linked to extreme weather conditions with which any Bermudian fisherman would be well acquainted. “White squalls” intense, unexpected storms that arrive without warning on otherwise clear days are probable culprits along with waterspouts, the equivalent of sea tornadoes.
The most recent scientific theory on the infamous Triangle suggests that the freakish disappearance of ships and aircraft could be the result of large deposits of methane gas spewing up from the ocean floor. Huge eruptions of methane bubbles may push water away from a ship, causing it to sink. If the highly flammable methane then rises into the air, it could ignite in an airplane’s engine — causing it to explode and disappear.
Fact or fiction, the Bermuda Triangle is a part of local lore that won’t disappear anytime soon. But don’t let the legend scare you away the Triangle isn’t the only thing that makes this island seem magical.
