And while there are plenty of tips on managing stress — meditation, yoga, exercise, etc. — sometimes we need a distraction.

Sure, you could go out with friends or binge-watch Netflix all night. But if you’re looking for something more productive than Netflix to de-stress, here are five activities that will help you break away from college stress.

Try to undertake the following strategies.

5 Keys on How to Break Away from College Stress

On the first day of classes, you’re probably thinking about how to get through the next four years. But before you know it, it’s time to graduate — and then what?

Don’t panic. We’ve got five activities that will guide you to break away from college stress like long study sessions and keep you on track for the future.

1.      Get some exercise

Our bodies were designed to move frequently. Sitting in a class all day and binge-watching your favorite series at night indicates that your body isn’t receiving enough exercise. This might make you feel bad on both a physical and emotional level, causing tension.

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, a lack of physical activity might add to symptoms of worry and despair. You don’t want these overpowering feelings to hit you right within a week of exams!

Exercise is one of the best ways to relieve stress. It releases endorphins, which make you feel good and can even help improve your mood. Exercise also helps reduce anxiety and depression, common among college students.

If you’re short on time during the day, try going for a walk or run in the evening after dinner or during lunch break at school and break away from college stress.

2.      Take time for yourself.

College can be stressful not just because of classes and work but also because of social pressures from friends and family members who expect you always to be available when they call or visit campus.

Make sure you set aside time each day just for yourself — whether that means taking a nap or going out with friends — so that you don’t feel pressured into being available just because someone else wants it that way.

3.      Get a good night’s sleep.

Keeping a sleep regimen is critical for mental health and stress management. Finding some time to rest before bed can improve the quality of your sleep. Every day, try to go to bed and wake up around the same time. It is suggested that you sleep for seven to eight hours.

Because stress might disrupt your sleeping pattern, try to relax as much as possible before going to bed. Take a bath, watch your favorite Shows, or read softly to unwind. Avoid using screens as much as possible, and turn off laptops, phones, and tablets at a minimum of an hour before bedtime.

4.      Keep a healthy diet

According to a study, excessive sugar intake can alter immune system cells that battle bacteria, meaning your body won’t be prepared to combat infections after gulping down a soda or sugary coffee drink.

Eating nutritious foods can help you feel better in general and avoid disease. Consider how productive a late-night study session with pizza, cookies, and soda made you feel. Maybe you’re a touch tense? You can better manage your hectic schedule by centering your meals on lean protein, nutritious carbs, veggies, and fruit.

Organize your time.

People become worried when they believe they are running out of time to complete a goal, which could be related to school or work, or it could be related to feeling overwhelmed by social events. On the other hand, simple time management practices might help you feel more comfortable and focused.

Create a documented calendar, break down your duties into reasonable portions, plan ahead of time, and set aside time each day to relax or socialize. Divide your job into important and non-important tasks and urgent and non-urgent chores.
