AFC Leopards And Kakamega Homeboyz To Face Off In Mozart Bet Cup Semis

AFC Leopards vanquished Bandari FC 3-0 to book a chance to the Semi-finals of the Mozart bet Cup while their rival Kakamega Homeboyz trashed Kariobangi Sharks 6-1 and added themselves to the list of semi-finals teams.

AFC Leopards scored their opening goal through a penalty which was converted into the back of the net by Vincent Omune 8 minutes after the kick-off. Leopards dominated the game with a brilliant display and in the 19th minute, Ndemi scored an own to give a double lead.

Jafferry Owiti scored another goal in the 23rd minute to make it 3-0 in favor of Ingwe. Bandari tried their luck at least to score a goal before the first half break but Afc leopards’ defenders controlled well their backline to deny Bandari strikers from scoring.

It was 3-0 at the first half break. In the second half both teams didn’t show any sign of scoring any goal and the game ended 3-0, this led to Bandari’s elimination from the Mozart bet cup at the quarter-finals.

Speaking after the game, Bandari FC head coach, Antony Kimani blamed his players for allowing AFC Leopards to score quick goals.

“Our season has not been good, our goals that we set from the start of the season but we have not achieved them,” Kimani said. ” We will continue to fight so that we can win the remaining league games in order to be in a good position in the FKF-Kenya premier league table.” He added.

On the other hand, AFC Leopards’ head coach, Patrick Aussems said this after the game, ” We had a very good start, so it means that we made the game easy by scoring the three quick goals within 25 minutes. It is much easier when you lead by 3 goals to nil. “

He added by saying that the boys controlled the game in both halves and helped them to move to the next level with a clean sheet.

Jafferry Owiti, who was the man of the match, thanked his teammates for showing great teamwork in the match. Owiti was awarded Ksh 100,000 for being the best player in the match.

Kariobangi Sharks clashed in a thrill of seven goals by Kakamega Homeboyz.

Kakamega Homeboyz scored their first goal in the 37th minute through Hillary Otieno after a brilliant cross from Amwayi Kevin.

Amwayi Kevin added the second goal for Sharks in the 39th minute before Ambrose Sifuna who scored the third goal four minutes later. At the break, Kakamega Homeboyz was leading 3-0 against the ‘ slums boys ‘ Kariobangi Sharks.

In the second half, Kakamega Homeboyz scored their fourth goal but Kariobangi Sharks responded in the 54th minute through their striker Imbali who made the score to be 4-1.

Homeboyz continued with their scoring momentum when they scored their fifth goal four minutes after Sharks’ goal through Okanda Felicien.

Farouk, Homeboyz’s goalkeeper pulled a double save to deny Sharks from getting their second from the awarded penalty.

Kevinluke Otiala, Sharks’ captain, was red-carded after making a dangerous push against Homeboyz player.

The game ended 6-1 with a big win in favor of Kakamega Homeboyz.

Now Kakamega Homeboyz will face their rivals AFC Leopards in the Semi-finals. It will be a ‘luhya derby’ where the two teams will meet for the third time this season. The Brewers (Tusker FC) who are sitting in the second position in the FKF-KPL will face Ulinzi Stars.

The winner will walk away with ksh 2, 000, 000 and represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup.
