Veteran freedom fighter Mukami Kimathi was laid to rest on Saturday, May 13th at her rural home in Njabini, Nyandarua county. However, political leaders used the podium to lock horns with each other issuing friendly tackles.
Politics took centre stage at the burial service, a friendly exchange between President William Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Azimio leader Raila Odinga employed interest for the crowd.
Opposition chief Raila Odinga was the first to showcase his prowess after he took his attacks on the Kenya Kwanza government, criticizing the proposed Finance Bill 2023.
Sometimes I tell Ruto the truth. The cost of living has gone up, don’t add more taxes. Gharama ya maisha imepanda, hapana leta ushuru mingi zaidi. Punda amechoka. Jamaa wako hawakuambii, mimi ndio naweza kuambia tu, punda amechoka.β Raila stroke.
Raila Odinga also advised Kenyans to continue speaking the truth without any form of fear. He also cited that he knows President Ruto well after having worked with him for a very long time.
United Kenyans should continue speaking truth to power, hapana tishwa, hapana ogopa! Unaogopa nini? Sisi kama Azimio si wendawazimuβ¦tuweze tu kuelewana. I have worked with Ruto for many years, he knows me very wellβ¦sometimes I see him akipiga kelele huko mimi naangalia tu, ninajua atapoa.β Raila added.
The former prime minister also secured a chance to unleash an attack on deputy president Rigathi Gachagua. Raila Odinga criticised Gachagua over a government directive issued over Mukami Kimathi’s state funeral.
Gachagua said that we would have a state funeral, and I want to remind the government that we do notΒ have the flags at half-mast.” Raila remarked.
The Opposition chief said the government also did not fulfil Mukami’s last wish of having her husband’s remains exhumed.
She had wished that on the day of her funeral, the remains of her husband be removed from Kamiti Maximum Prison and brought to her.” Raila said
However, when his turn to take it to the podium came, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua did not hold it back on firing shots at Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga.
I am happy the former prime minister has said we speak the truth. Welcome to the club of truthful men. It is true the truth is good, it sets you free.” Gachagua said.
He also mentioned the need for the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition to forget about the past election, move on and prepare for the upcoming 2027 elections.
People must not live in denial. The truth of the matter is that hustler number one William Ruto is the president and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces. That is the truth and is deputy is Riggy G son of Mau Mau, that is the truth. The truth is election is over, the next election is in 2027.” He said.
The DP asked Raila Odinga to also fight for the return of Mau Mau land ad he continues fighting for Kenyans.
Raila, as you fight for Kenyans, we would also like you to fight for the Mau Mau to get their land back. Even as we ask the government to look for money to buy land for Mau Mau, the land for Mau Mau is known where it is. Those who took it can be considerate and give us even half, it will be enough.” Exclaimed Rigathi Gachagua.

It was now President William Ruto’s turn to show the netizens what he got, in defence of his proposed Finance Bill after being spoken out by Raila Odinga.
First, the head of state used his election victory to emphasize that he was familiar with Raila’s political game and that’s why he managed to get passed him alongside Uhuru Kenyatta.
Raila says he knows me well, and itβs true. I also know him, and Iβve studied him well. Thatβs why I beat him while he was with Uhuru. I also know him well, and I know where his protests will end.” Said President Ruto.
He also reminded the opposition leader that he understood matters of economy well and being Mwai Kibaki’s student, it was his turn to rescue the economy of Kenya.
Raila, when it comes to history you can beat me, but when it comes to the economy, I understand that.
I am a student of the late Kibaki. He learned that you do not grow a country by growing money but by taxes. It’s my turn now, and I want to push it to Ksh2.8 trillion. Give me space to fix this economy.” Said Ruto.

He also acknowledged that the cost of living was high but argued that it was worse before his inauguration, directly rebuking Uhuru.
Look at the cost of flour. It was Ksh230; we have lowered it to Ksh170 and are still lowering it. The mistake you people made was funding the millers rather than the farmers. That is what I have done, empower the farmer.” Added the head of state.
