Twitter Verification mark: As of April 2023, Twitter will gradually discontinue its previous verification system, the business said on Thursday 23. When followers fulfilled certain requirements, they would receive Twitter’s recognizable blue check mark. To maintain that verified status, they will now need to spend at least $8 each month.

Before, Twitter users had to ask for proof. They had to satisfy the requirements of being Government Organizations, News organizations, individuals in news & journalists, Companies, brands & organizations, Entertainment, Sports & gaming, Activists & organizers; Content creators & influential individuals and their accounts had to be “authentic, noteworthy, and active.”

Accounts that are spam or parody will not be accepted, and neither will users who post offensive content or engage in other detrimental behavior. If rules were broken, someone altered their handle, wasn’t active, or had a misleading account, verification could be revoked.

Now, though, those guidelines are being disregarded. Only accounts that actively subscribe to Twitter Blue, the company’s new verification program, will retain their blue checks, according to Twitter, which said it would “begin winding down our legacy verification program” on April 1. If they don’t sign up, people who were awarded a blue checkmark under the previous scheme will lose it. Accounts must be complete, meaning they have a display name and profile photo, and they must have active users in the past 30 days to subscribe.

Accounts cannot be deceptive, must be older than 90 days, and cannot have recently changed their biography. There must be no indications of tampering or span in the account.

Many critics raised concerns about impersonators and parody accounts purchasing a blue checkmark, which can lead other users to believe they are real people — not fake accounts pretending to be real people — when Elon Musk took over the company and announced plans for a blue checkmark subscription.

In an effort to avoid this, accounts that change their profile will briefly lose their verification status until the Twitter Blue team has had a chance to review their subscription and re-verify them.

Accounts that violate Twitter policies run the chance of losing their subscription program checkmark.

New Twitter Blue users won’t be scrutinized for their activity, notoriety, or authenticity like in the past, according to Twitter.

According to Twitter, the membership, which costs $8 per month or $84 annually, will also grant “early access to features” in addition to a blue check mark.

Subscribers have the option to edit tweets, group and arrange them, organize and bookmark them, personalize the appearance of their Twitter app icon and Twitter page, and even update their profiles to add NFTs. In addition, subscribers now have access to a “undo tweet” option, which lets you take back a tweet after you’ve sent it but before it’s seen by other Twitter users.

Tweets are currently limited to 280 characters. Users of Twitter Blue will be able to send messages with 4,000 characters.

Since November, Twitter Blue has been offered at a discounted fee, and it has already undergone one relaunch. The $7.99 membership fee will be extended for an additional $11 per month. Renewal rates for those who signed up for $2.99 or $4.99 will be $8 per month or $11 per month, accordingly. The differences were not explained by Twitter.

Musk stated in a tweet that new users can join Twitter Blue for just $7 per month. According to Twitter’s website, regional pricing begins at $8 per month.

In order to distinguish between different types of accounts, Twitter is also introducing various badges and checkmarks: gray checks for government officials and organizations, gold checks for official businesses or corporations, an affiliation badge for accounts linked to an organization on Twitter, and a badge for members of state-run media organizations. Twitter will immediately add these badges.

In a tweet on Friday, Musk Tweeted: “Any individual person’s Twitter account affiliated with a verified organization is automatically verified.”
