Former president Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday, April 26, made an impromptu visit to jubilee party headquarters in Kileleshwa. His visit came amid controversy surrounding the party takeover.
After accessing the party offices, Uhuru asked any other member who wanted to leave the party to join the rest and also urged other members of the public to maintain peace.
Anyone who wants to leave the party can join another. We have no quarrel with anyone. We want to guard our party, and those who do not want are free to leave. Let us maintain peace. Police officers have better things to do other than coming here to restore peace. We don’t have issues with anyone, our mandate is to maintain peace.”
Uhuru Kenyatta remarked.
The former head of state asked the police officer to go back to their stations and not allow them to be used by people to cause chaos. The party shall hold a meeting from which the membership will decide the future of the party.
We want to inform them (police officers) to go back to police stations and not be used by people who want to cause chaos. We have a mechanism as a political party with which to solve our problems and we shall solve. We shall have our meetings as and when, the membership will decide the future of the party.”
Said the former president.

Kenyatta also said that he had come to the party headquarters after he received a phone call from Kioni and he had come to stand with their followers.
So, I received a phone call from Kioni and updated me on what had transpired. I came to stand with him and our followers. I have no other duty than our people’s rights. Let’s live in peace. We are peaceful people and wish to live in a peaceful country in coexistence with all the people of our party.
Added Uhuru.
He also directed Kioni to ensure that the youths who had gotten injured during the scuffle are sorted and received medical attention.
The youths who got injured due to the scuffle, inform them to stay behind so that we can sort them something and ensure that they receive medical attention.”

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s visit sparks criticisms
However, other political leaders reacted to Uhuru Kenyatta’s decision to visit Jubilee party headquarters confronting his involvement in the party’s leadership war games.
Nandi senator Samson Cherargei slammed the former head of state for being at the forefront of wrangles over leadership in the Jubilee party. Cherargei cited that Uhuru Kenyatta should make peace with the fact that the Jubilee party had resolved to work with President William Ruto.
Uhuru should be made aware that the party has resolved to work with the Kenya Kwanza government. He is the chair of Azimio-Oka council not party leader of Jubilee or shall be removed. This is just pure hatred towards Ruto and the government. He must also pay taxes from his vast companies.”
Remarked Cherargei.
