Former Citizen TV anchor Jackie Maribe, on Thursday, May 11 was arraigned in court over the murder of Monica Kimani on September 19, 2018.
In a bid of trying to defend her name from a case she is mentioned alongside her ex-boyfriend Joseph Irungu alias Jowie, the former media personality mentioned former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko as a person of interest.
Jackie Maribe said that on the day the murder of Monica Kimani is said to have been executed, she had hosted the former governor on Citizen TV and after which they proceeded to Westlands together with Mike Sonko’s handlers. She also said that they stayed at the entertainment lounge in Westlands where they were joined by her ex-lover Jowie later at night.

I stayed at the station until 10 pm after Sonko asked me to wait. We then went to the lounge with his two handlers.” Maribe said.
To add strength to her defense lines, Jackie Maribe told the court that she learned about Monica Kimani’s death while reading 4 p.m. news on Citizen TV. The accused also denied having known the deceased before her demise.
I learnt about her death when I was reading a news bulletin. I urge this court to acquit me.
I did not know Monica Kimani. I had never met her. I had never communicated with her. I had never discussed with the first accused person or anyone else concerning Monica. I had no motive to want her dead.” Maribe said.

Mike Sonko’s comments on being mentioned by Jackie Maribe.
Reacting to his name being mentioned in the court of law by Jackie Maribe, the former governor admitted to having spent time with her and others on that night.
On this matter, if I’m summoned by the court, I’ll tell the truth and nothing but the truth. I’m not the type of friend who disowns his friends in times of trouble. It’s true I was with Jacque Maribe at Citizen TV when I was being interviewed on the JKL show on September 19, 2018, at 9:45.” Sonko posed.
Mike Sonko said that he also managed to download the CCTV of the club, which he is willing to hand over to the court as evidence. The former governor also denied knowing Joseph Irungu.
I managed to download the CCTV of the club. It is there. However, I do not know Jowie Irungu, and I don’t support his actions at all on that material day, and if it’s true he murdered Monica Kimani, let the law take its course. That’s all I wish to state.” Said Sonko.
