Mukami Kimathi, widow to the late Field Marshall Dedan Kimathi is dead. The veteran freedom fighter passed away on Thursday night, May 5, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi, where she was admitted after developing breathing difficulties.
Her actual age at the time of her demise could not be verified, different sources provided different figures. Its however believed she was between the age of 96years and 101 years old.
Her demise was confirmed by her daughter Evelyn Kimathi Wangui.
Yes, she is dead, and Kenyans are impatient. They have been calling all night to confirm the news. We are awaiting the president to announce since yesterday night.
Evelyn Wangui said.
We were promised that he would announce. Kindly let him do so to calm the anxiety.”
Mukami Kimathi was among the Mau Mau freedom fighters detained at the Kamiti Maximum Prison during Kenya’s struggle for independence.

President Ruto Mourns the late Freedom Fighter Mukami Kimathi
President William Ruto had joined the entire nation in mourning the late freedom fighter. The head of state mentioned her as a celebrated heroine of Kenya’s struggle for independence. He also mentioned that other than fighting for the nation’s independence, Mukami Kimathi still managed to win the struggle in providing for her children in the absence of her husband Field Marshall Kimathi.
Mama Mukami Kimathi courageously withstood the brutality of colonial oppression, proudly wore the scars of the battle and bore the terrible losses of war with admirable fortitude.
The President said.
After winning the war for independence, Mama Mukami was left behind to fend and win the struggle to provide for her children in the absence of Field Marshall Kimathi. In her characteristic way, she also won this war.”
Similarly, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has penned down a heartwarming message, condoling with the family of the late freedom fighter. Gachagua said that Mukami alongside her husband Field Marshall Kimathi, demonstrated love for their nation, this was expressed by her taking part in the war against white colonialists, which saw the country gain independence
As one of the Mau Mau fighters, alongside her husband Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi, she demonstrated her love for the nation when she took part in the war against the white colonialists, from the forest, to liberate Kenya.
Gachagua said.
Mukami remains an inspiring figure to those of us in leadership. Rest well, Field Marshal Mukami, mother of our struggle.”

The late Mukami Kimathi recently received financial support from President William Ruto’s administration, which helped her clear Sh. 1.3million bill. The aid from the head of state was confirmed by his deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
