Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Dr. Alfred Mutua on Thursday, April 27, made a trip to Spain.
The trip saw him strike a development deal with the Spanish government, including the construction of an overpass on Ngong’s road.
Details of CS Alfred Mutua’s Deal with the Spanish Government
Upon arrival in the European nation, Alfred Mutua said that he had intended to make official engagements and business to impress investors and tourists to Kenya.

I have, early this morning, arrived in Madrid, Spain for official engagements and business forum to woo investors and tourists to Kenya.”
Posed the CS Alfred Mutua.
He held a bilateral meeting with the minister of foreign affairs to Spain Jose Manuel Albares. The top agenda of the meeting was to sign a memorandum of understanding that will see Kenyans trained in the Spanish language. This would enhance Spanish as a major language of study in the country and will aid open up opportunities for youths abroad.
I was honored to hold bilateral discussions with Spain’s minister for Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation Jose Manuel Albares.
Top of the agenda was signing a memorandum of understanding that will see Kenyans trained Spanish language even as we train them in English. This will enhance Spanish as a major language of study in Kenya and open up opportunities for Kenyan youth abroad.”

Other than building the Ngong road overpass, the Spanish government committed to improving Kenya’s railway system. Spain is the home to 1,000 companies that sell their products to Kenya, the meeting saw Kenya sneak a way through which Kenya can also sell their products in Spain. The CS requested for scholarships for Kenyan students to be availed in the European country.

We also discussed the various partnerships and commitment by Spain towards Kenya which includes funds for improving our railway system and roads (in particular an overpass at Junction Mall area of Nairobi’s Ngong road).
We also reviewed our trade partnership where 1,000 companies sell their products to Kenya every year. We also discussed how Kenyans can sell their products in Spain.
I requested for scholarships for our Kenyan students and they promised to avail them as soon as such opportunities arise. In the meantime, we agreed on an immediate exchange of diplomats to study in Spain and in Kenya.”
Added the CS.
The meeting between the two Foreign Affairs Ministers gave a chance for discussions on the ongoing war in Sudan. Dr. Alfred Mutua requested the Spanish government’s support for a Nairobi-based mediation process for Sudan.
We also discussed the ongoing war in Sudan, the dynamics around it and the need for a sustained cease fire in Sudan. We requested for their support for a Nairobi based mediation process for Sudan.”

The Spanish Minister informed the Kenyan Interior CS that, Kenya is at the forefront of their relations and investment in the African continent as per the country’s policies.
