What is CAS’s position?
CAS stands for Chief Administrative Secretary. In the Kenyan government, the position of CAS is a relatively new role that was created after the 2017 general elections. The CAS is an assistant to a Cabinet Secretary in a specific ministry.

Role of CAS in Kenya
Their main role is to support the Cabinet Secretary in the management and coordination of the ministry’s functions and programs. This includes providing policy guidance and direction, overseeing the implementation of government policies and programs, and liaising with other government agencies, stakeholders, and the public.
The appointment of CASs has been seen as a way of enhancing efficiency and accountability in the government by ensuring that there is effective coordination between the Cabinet Secretaries and their respective ministries.
Currently, there are over 40 CASs serving in different government ministries and agencies in Kenya.

Nothing but an excellent performance from the assigned roles.
We have had cases of persons assigned roles and failing terribly. For the past several years of governance in Kenya, individuals appointed to government offices took it as a stepping stone to richness.
Individuals appointed to the respective offices have recorded instances of gross misconduct. There has been a lot of misappropriation of funds in those offices.
Anyway, we hope Itumbi has less appetite for public resources.
The oath of office has to be respected and obeyed. Elected leaders deserve to undertake their duties with respect and due diligence.
