Hilda Baci has officially been confirmed by Guinness World Records Committee as the new record holder for ‘The Longest Cooking Marathon Individual Category’.
The Nigerian chef, Hilda Effoing Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, made the record attempt from May 11 to May 15, 2023, an exercise that saw her clock 100 hours to achieve.
The 27-year-old who runs a restaurant in Nigeria known as ‘My Food by Hilda’, participated in a cooking marathon that took place at Amore Gardens, Lekki in Lagos.
During the cooking marathon, Hilda was not allowed to take coffee, stimulants, or any energy drink to artificially boost her energy and bodily strength while cooking.

She cooked round the clock, with no sleep (morning, afternoon, evening, and night), and in some instances, would rest for a few minutes.
The food made during the exercise where distributed to the attendees, free of charge.
After weeks of waiting, in a statement on Tuesday 13th June 2023, Guinness World Records Committee credited Hilda with the record for the longest cooking time. After their review of the video footage presented by Hilda to GWRC, the record was placed at 93 hours 11 minutes, seven hours less than the time submitted by the chef.
“After reviewing all the footage, we’re delighted to announce that Hilda Baci is the new record holder for the longest cooking marathon (individual).” Guinness World Records noted.

The previous record was held by chef Lata Tandon from India who cooked for 87hr 45min in September 2019.
As with all ‘longest marathon’ records, the participant is permitted a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity. These rest breaks can be accumulated if not taken. They were the only times Hilda could use the bathroom or sleep during the attempt.” Read part of the statement from Guinness World Records.
