The diplomatic number plates given to the embassies were assigned in the order that they recognized Kenya’s independence, with Germany (then West Germany) as the first country to recognize Kenya’s independence by having the diplomatic plate 1 CD.

Diplomatic number plates for diplomatic cars in Kenya have distinct red plates with a specific number assigned to a country plus the letters CD. The vehicle is used by Diplomats.

A diplomat is a person appointed by a state or an intergovernmental institution such as the United Nations or the European Union to conduct diplomacy with one or more other states or international organizations.
